Server World's Anti-SPAM/Virus Filtering Service

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Quarantined Messages

Q. I keep getting email blocked - how can I prevent this from happening again?
A. Send an email to support@serverworld.com.au and request the sender be "white-listed".

Q. Why are messages sometimes blocked and other times not?
A. It all depends on the message itself - not the sender. Anti-SPAM filtering takes into consideration a lot of different parameters before it considers the message potential SPAM. Here's a quick overview:

  • Check to see if the sender is from RBL-Listed IPs
  • Check Anti-Dictionary Defence
  • Check White Lists
  • Anti-SPAM Heuristics:
    • SPAM ID Threshold
    • Max Message Size
    • Short Circuiting
    • OCR Scanning
    • Scoring
    • Network Tests
  • Identifying SPAM Messages
  • Advanced Textual Classifier

Q. How long do you quarantine messages for?
A. 28 days.

Blocked Message Reports

Q. What are they?
A. An email is sent titled: "Server World Anti-SPAM Blocked Message Report for {date} (x Messages)" - These are your daily email quarantine digests. They contain a list of messages that are blocked by our filtering service.

Q. How often are they sent?
A. Server World sends two email digest reports per day - at 6am and at 12 noon.

Q. What happens if an email is quarantined and appears in my digest report?
A. Simply release the email by clicking on the RELEASE button.

Q. I click on the RELEASE button but nothing works - what is wrong?
A. Some email clients like Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007 have anti-phishing features built-in to your email view. Click here to view a knowledge base article on Outlook Phishing features.

Q. I never receive a Blocked Message report - is there anything wrong?
A. No - you could be one of the lucky few and not have any SPAM. Or your Email Client may have filed these emails in your Junk Mail folder.

Q. What do the Blocked Message Reports look like?
A. See screen image below:

Blocked Message Report

Q. Do I need to keep these reports?
A. No - if they have nothing of value to you, simply delete them. By deleting the report - it doesn't delete the quarantined messages from our server - all quarantined messages remain on our system for up to 28 days.
